mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face=\"Times New Roman\">Exodus 6:2-8<\/font><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face=\"Times New Roman\">Remember\u2014<\/font><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><font size=3><em>I AM<\/em> the   L<\/font><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\">ORD<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\"><o:p><font   face=\"Times New Roman\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p   style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify; MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; tab-stops: 13.5pt .5in 2.5in 238.5pt 337.5pt\"   class=MsoNormal><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><font size=3>God also said to   Moses, &#8220;I am the L<\/font><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\">ORD<\/span><font   size=3>.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>I appeared to Abraham, to   Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name the L<\/font><span   style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\">ORD<\/span><font size=3> I did not make myself known to   them.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>I also established my   covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, where they lived as   aliens.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Moreover, I have heard the   groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, and I have   remembered my covenant.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Therefore,   say to the Israelites:<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>&#8216;I am the   L<\/font><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\">ORD<\/span><font size=3>, and I will bring   you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>I will free you from being slaves to   them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of   judgment.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>I will take you as my own   people, and I will be your God.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp;   <\/span>Then you will know that I am the L<\/font><span   style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\">ORD<\/span><font size=3> your God, who brought you out   from under the yoke of the Egyptians.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp;   <\/span>And I will bring you to the land I swore with uplifted hand to give to   Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>I   will give it to you as a possession.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp;   <\/span>I am the L<\/font><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\">ORD<\/span><font   size=3>.'&#8221;<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>(NIV1984)<b   style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/b><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 11pt\"><o:p><font   face=\"Times New Roman\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 11pt\"><o:p><font   face=\"Times New Roman\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face=\"Times New Roman\">Dear brothers and sisters in   Christ,<\/font><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><o:p><font size=3 face=\"Times New Roman\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face=\"Times New Roman\">I once read an anecdote   about a man who decided to try and get all of his brothers and sisters and their   families to come together at a quiet summer resort for a mini family   reunion.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>The last time all of them   had been together at the same time and in the same place was three years ago at   their mother\u2019s funeral.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Before that   the last time they all got together was at their father\u2019s funeral which was just   eight month\u2019s prior to their mother\u2019s funeral.<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Much to his delight everyone agreed to   meet!<\/font><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><o:p><font size=3 face=\"Times New Roman\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face=\"Times New Roman\">One evening as they all   gathered together someone came up with the idea of turning on a tape recorder so   that they could all share some memories about their parents.<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Two hours later when they turned the   tape recorder off, they all responded in the very same way:<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>\u201cI never heard <em>that<\/em> story   before!\u201d<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Since each of them had had   their own personal encounters with their parents each of them had their own   personalized memories of their parents.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp;   <\/span>The end result was that they were not only comforted by reliving the   memories of their parents, but they were also amazed at how clearly they could   now see that God had been actively working in each of their lives through their   parents.<\/font><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><o:p><font size=3 face=\"Times New Roman\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face=\"Times New Roman\">You and I, of course, know   that the good Lord is indeed involved in each and every one of our lives.<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Sometimes His involvement in our lives   is rather obvious.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Sometimes His   involvement in our lives is quite subtle.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp;   <\/span>And then there are the times when we need to be reminded.<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>There are the times when we need to be   reminded that God is indeed actively and personally involved in our lives.<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>There are even the times when we need to   be reminded of whom our God is and what our God has done for us.<\/font><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><o:p><font size=3 face=\"Times New Roman\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><font size=3>Today, my friends, is     one of those times.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Today as we   focus our attention on an incident that took place in the life of Moses our goal   will be to hear God Himself say to us:<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp;   <\/span><\/font><em><b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><font size=3>Remember\u2014   I Am the L<\/font><\/b><b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><span   style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\">ORD<\/span><font size=3>.<\/font><\/b><\/em><\/font><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><o:p><font size=3 face=\"Times New Roman\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><font size=3>When Moses was 80   years old the Lord appeared to him in a burning bush and told Moses that he was   the one who was going to lead the Children of Israel out of <st1:place   w:st=\"on\"><st1:country-region w:st=\"on\">Egypt<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place>   and into the Promised Land.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>You may   recall that Moses did not want the job.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp;   <\/span>In fact, Moses turned down the job!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp;   <\/span>In the end, however, Moses learned that you do not say \u201cNo\u201d when God asks   you to do something for Him.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>So   Moses went back to Egypt and said to Pharaoh, the most powerful human being on   the face of the earth, <\/font><em><font size=3>\u201cThis is what the L<\/font><span   style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\">ORD<\/span><\/em><font size=3><em>, the God of Israel   says:<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>\u2018Let my people go\u2026\u2019\u201d<\/em>   (Exodus 5:1).<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Do you remember how   Pharaoh responded?<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Basically he   laughed and said, \u201cYeah, right!\u201d<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp;   <\/span>Then he made the lives of the Israelites even more difficult than they   already were!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>And when the   Israelites learned of Pharaoh\u2019s reaction to Moses\u2019 request and how Pharaoh was   going to make their lives even more difficult, well let\u2019s just say that they   were not overly happy with Moses.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><o:p><font size=3 face=\"Times New Roman\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><font size=3>Now strive to put   yourself into Moses\u2019 sandals, my friends.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp;   <\/span>Reluctantly\u2014 very reluctantly\u2014 you come back to <st1:place   w:st=\"on\"><st1:country-region w:st=\"on\">Egypt<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place>   after being away for forty years and you do exactly what the Lord told you to   do.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>And when you do what the Lord   Himself told you to do you immediately find yourself in the crosshairs of both   the Egyptians and the Israelites!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp;   <\/span>So what did Moses do?<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>He   complained to God\u2014 again.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>God\u2019s   response to Moses\u2019 complaint is very simply this:<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span><\/font><em><b   style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><font size=3>Remember\u2014 I Am the   L<\/font><\/b><b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><span   style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\">ORD<\/span><font size=3>!<\/font><\/b><\/em><font   size=3><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>While that response could   sound rather stern in reality it is the sweetest response that Moses\u2019 could have   possibly hoped to hear!<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><o:p><font size=3 face=\"Times New Roman\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><font size=3>There are a number of   different names for God revealed to us on the pages of holy Scripture\u2014 the   <em>\u201cLord of Hosts,\u201d \u201cGod Almighty,\u201d \u201cCreator\u201d<\/em> just to name a few.<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Each name emphasizes a unique aspect of   the one and only true God.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>The name   <\/font><em><font size=3>\u201cL<\/font><span   style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\">ORD<\/span><\/em><font size=3><em>\u201d<\/em> emphasizes the   covenant aspect of God\u2019s relationship with His people.<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>The L<\/font><span   style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\">ORD<\/span><font size=3> God is the great <\/font><font   size=3><em>\u201cI AM WHO I AM\u201d<\/em> of Exodus chapter three.<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>The L<\/font><span   style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\">ORD<\/span><font size=3> God is the eternal living God of   absolute independence.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>The   L<\/font><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\">ORD <\/span><font size=3>God is the God of   both perfect justice as well as the God of infinite grace.<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>The L<\/font><span   style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\">ORD <\/span><font size=3>God is the God who not only   makes promises to His people but He is the God who always \u2014 always! \u2014 keeps the   promises that He makes.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>So when   Moses begins to complain about the treatment he receives when doing what God   told him to do God responds to Moses\u2019 complaint by saying:<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>\u201c<\/font><em><b   style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><font size=3>Remember\u2014 I Am the   L<\/font><\/b><b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><span   style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\">ORD<\/span><font size=3>!<\/font><\/b><\/em><font   size=3><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>I am the God who willingly   entered into a covenant with Abraham and his descendants.<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>I am the God who controls the destiny of   all nations including both <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:country-region   w:st=\"on\">Egypt<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place> and <st1:place   w:st=\"on\"><st1:country-region   w:st=\"on\">Israel<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place>.\u201d<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>And as the Lord Himself reminds Moses   here in our text, <em>\u201cI have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the   Egyptians are enslaving, and I have remembered my covenant.\u201d<\/em><span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Did Moses have a reason to   complain?<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Did Moses have a right to   be upset?<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>I don\u2019t think   so!<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><o:p><font size=3 face=\"Times New Roman\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><font size=3>It probably is not   difficult for most of us to relate to what Moses was going through at this point   in his life.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Have any of you ever   been faced with a situation that seems so overwhelming that you become   completely frustrated by your inability to do anything about it?<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Have you ever encountered something at   work that is so stressful that before you even realize it the muscles in your   neck, your shoulders and your back are so tied up in knots that it is literally   painful to be touched?<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Are there   situations at home\u2014 whether it be with your spouse or your children, your   parents or your siblings\u2014 that make you want to just throw your hands up in the   air and say, \u201cWhy do I even try!\u201d?<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp;   <\/span>Have you ever spent days walking around on pins and needles as you waited   for the results of your medical tests to come back?<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Have you ever lived in the suspended   animation of grief that so often follows the death of a loved one?<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>If anything like this has ever happened   to you then you can understand how Moses felt here in our text.<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Then you can understand why the best   answer that Moses could have possibly received to his complaint was to have God   say to him:<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span><\/font><em><b   style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><font size=3>Remember\u2014 I Am the   L<\/font><\/b><b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><span   style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\">ORD<\/span><font   size=3>!<o:p><\/o:p><\/font><\/b><\/em><\/font><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><o:p><font size=3 face=\"Times New Roman\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><font size=3>Guess what!<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Satan knows all about those kinds of   situations, my friends.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>And   whenever we are in a situation that simply overwhelms us, whenever we are in a   situation that makes us feel helpless and frustrated Satan will do his very best   to muffle God\u2019s voice in our hearts, in our ears and even in our memories.<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Satan wants us to drown in the   whirlpools of doubt that so often seem to engulf us.<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Satan wants us to think that there is no   hope, there is no help, there is no way out of the situation we find ourselves   in.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>But if we stop and listen very   closely as the God of heaven speaks to us through His holy inspired Word then   even in the most difficult of situations we will hear the voice of our God   gently saying to us:<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>\u201c<\/font><em><b   style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><font size=3>Remember\u2014 I Am the   L<\/font><\/b><b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><span   style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\">ORD<\/span><font size=3>!<\/font><\/b><\/em><font   size=3><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>I am the God who has   willingly entered into a covenant relationship with you right there at the   Baptismal font.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>I am the God who   has both the power and the desire to fulfill all of my promises to you.<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>I am the God you can always count on in   any and every situation.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>I am the   L<\/font><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\">ORD<\/span><font   size=3>!\u201d<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><o:p><font size=3 face=\"Times New Roman\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><font size=3>The comfort that you   and I receive from knowing that our God is the L<\/font><span   style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\">ORD<\/span><font size=3> is a comfort that goes far   beyond my ability to describe.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp;   <\/span>Sometimes, however, in our weak and sinful condition we want more than   just words.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Sometimes we want a   sign.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>We want some kind of   <em>action<\/em> to hang on to.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>In   His grace God gave to Moses just such a sign.<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>We hear Him say to Moses,   <\/font><em><font size=3>\u201cI am the L<\/font><span   style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\">ORD<\/span><font size=3>, and I will bring you out from   under the yoke of the Egyptians.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>I   will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an   outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment.<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>I will take you as my own people, and I   will be your God.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Then you will   know that I am the L<\/font><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\">ORD<\/span><font size=3>   your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>And I will bring you to the land I swore   with uplifted hand to give to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob.<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>I will give it to you as a   possession.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>I am the L<\/font><span   style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\">ORD<\/span><font size=3>.\u201d<\/font><\/em><\/font><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><o:p><font size=3 face=\"Times New Roman\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><font size=3>No matter how   difficult the situation might get for Moses, no matter how deep the doubts might   become in his heart and mind the Lord was going to give Moses a very powerful   sign.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>The Lord was going to carry   out an action the likes of which this world had never seen.<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>With an <\/font><font   size=3><em>\u201coutstretched arm\u201d<\/em> the Lord was going to redeem His people from   slavery and bring them into the Promised Land of Canaan, a land flowing with   milk and honey.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>For generations to   come the exodus of God\u2019s people from <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:country-region   w:st=\"on\">Egypt<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place> would serve as both a powerful   reminder and a powerful proclamation to the fact that the L<\/font><span   style=\"FONT-SIZE: 11pt\">ORD<\/span><font size=3> is God!<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><o:p><font size=3 face=\"Times New Roman\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><font size=3>As you know, I like to   \u201cconnect the dots\u201d between various portions of Scripture\u2014 especially between the   Old Testament and the New Testament.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp;   <\/span>So before we move on to see how this portion of Scripture applies to you   let\u2019s take a moment to make sure we understand that the very same God who said   to Moses, \u201cRemember\u2014 <\/font><font size=3><em>I AM <\/em>the L<\/font><span   style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\">ORD<\/span><font size=3>!\u201d is the very same God who   speaks those very same words to you and to me.<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Very simply I want to help you \u201cconnect   the dots\u201d in such a way that you have absolutely no doubt in your heart that the   God who spoke to Moses here in our text so many centuries ago is the same God   who lived and died and rose again <b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\">for   <\/b>you!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>(Pointing to the   cross)<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><o:p><font size=3 face=\"Times New Roman\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face=\"Times New Roman\">In Luke chapter two we hear   the beloved words that the Christmas angel spoke to the shepherds, <em>\u201cToday in   the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord\u201d<\/em>   (Luke 2:11).<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>This is the   20<sup>th<\/sup> time that Luke uses the name <em>\u201cthe Lord\u201d<\/em> in his Gospel   account.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>All of the previous 19   times that Luke uses this name there is no question and there is no doubt that   he is referring to the one true God\u2014 the Lord God of heaven and earth,   <em>\u201cJehovah,\u201d <\/em>the great <em>\u201cI AM.\u201d<\/em><span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Now fast-forward thirty-some years.<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>The Child of Bethlehem, Jesus of   Nazareth, is having a \u201cdiscussion\u201d with some of the children of Abraham who   rejected Jesus as the Promised Messiah.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp;   <\/span>At one point they ask Jesus, <em>\u201cAre you greater than our father   Abraham?\u201d<\/em><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Part of Jesus\u2019 reply   was this, <em>\u201c\u2019Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he   saw it and was glad.\u2019<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>\u2018You are not   yet fifty years old,\u2019 the Jews said to him, \u2018and you have seen Abraham!\u2019<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>\u2018I tell you the truth,\u2019 Jesus answered,   \u2018before Abraham was born, I am!\u2019\u201d<\/em><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp;   <\/span>Was Jesus actually claiming to be <em>\u201cJehovah<\/em>,<em>\u201d<\/em> the great   <em>\u201cI AM,\u201d<\/em> who spoke to Moses here in our text?<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Absolutely!<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>How do we know for sure?<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Because of the reaction of Jesus\u2019   enemies!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>In the very next verse we   are told, <em>\u201cAt this, they picked up stones to stone him <\/em>(they considered   Jesus to be guilty of blasphemy),<em> but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from   the temple grounds\u201d<\/em> (John 8:48-59; See also John 10:22-33).<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Once we understand that Jesus <b   style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\">is <\/b><em>\u201cthe Lord,\u201d \u201cJehovah,\u201d<\/em> the   great <em>\u201cI AM\u201d<\/em> then we can see how this Old Testament text applies to our   lives as the New Testament children of God.<\/font><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><o:p><font size=3 face=\"Times New Roman\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><font size=3>On more than one   occasion people have asked me the question, \u201cIf God is so good and if God is so   powerful then why doesn\u2019t He <em>do<\/em> something about all the evil in this   world?\u201d<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>On more than one occasion   people have expressed to me the heartfelt desire that God would give them some   kind of \u201csign\u201d that everything is going to be alright\u2014 even though they are   going through a very difficult time in their life.<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Whenever I encounter such questions,   whenever I encounter such desires I always respond by pointing people to the   cross of Jesus Christ.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Because   <em>\u201cthe Lord\u201d<\/em> our God <em>is<\/em> good and because <em>\u201cthe Lord\u201d <\/em>our   God <em>is<\/em> powerful He not only <em>did<\/em> something about all the evil   that exists in this world, but He also <em>did<\/em> something about all the evil   that exists inside of us.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>He poured   out His holy precious blood to completely pay for all the sins of all mankind\u2014   including all of your sins, including all of my sins.<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Yes, my friends, in His grace and in His   mercy <em>\u201cthe Lord\u201d <\/em>God <em>has<\/em> given to you a \u201csign\u201d that everything   will be alright. Every time you walk into this church and lift up your eyes to   this cross (Pointing to the cross) you are assured of how <em>\u201cthe Lord\u201d<\/em>   your God, the great <em>\u201cI AM\u201d<\/em> willingly stretched out His arms and died in   order to redeem you from your slavery to sin, death and the power of the   devil.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Every time you walk into   this church and lift up your eyes to this cross (Pointing to the cross) you are   assured that one day <em>\u201cthe Lord\u201d <\/em>your God,<em> <\/em>your risen Lord and   Savior, the great <em>\u201cI AM\u201d<\/em> will fulfill His promise to come back and take   you to <b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\">the<\/b> Promised Land, His   heavenly Father\u2019s home.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>So if ever,   my friends, if ever you begin to doubt what <em>\u201cthe Lord\u201d<\/em> your God has   done for you, if ever you begin to doubt what <em>\u201cthe Lord\u201d <\/em>your God can   do for you, if ever you begin to doubt what <em>\u201cthe Lord\u201d <\/em>your God will do   for you kneel at the foot of the cross on Calvary\u2019s hill and listen!<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Listen as your God gently says to   you:<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span><\/font><em><b   style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><font size=3>Remember\u2014 I Am the   L<\/font><\/b><b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><span   style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\">ORD<\/span><font size=3>!<\/font><\/b><\/em><\/font><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><o:p><font size=3 face=\"Times New Roman\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><font size=3>Like Moses here in our   text there are going to be times when we feel overwhelmed by the situations we   are in.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Sometimes like Moses we may   even bring our complaints to God.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp;   <\/span>If ever that happens to you \u2014 or perhaps I should say whenever that   happens to you\u2014 I pray that you will quickly get to the point where you take a   deep breath, lift up your eyes and humbly listen as your God says to you:<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span><\/font><em><b   style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><font size=3>My dearest child, remember\u2014 I   Am the L<\/font><\/b><b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal\"><span   style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\">ORD<\/span><font size=3>!<\/font><\/b><\/em><\/font><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><o:p><font size=3 face=\"Times New Roman\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face=\"Times New Roman\">To God be the   glory!<\/font><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><o:p><font size=3 face=\"Times New Roman\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p   style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none\"   class=MsoNormal><font size=3><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Amen<span   style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp;&nbsp;
