mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">Stop #2\u2014 Jacob\u2019s Well<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; tab-stops: 13.5pt .5in 2.5in 238.5pt 337.5pt;\"><span style=\"mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">Now he had to go through Samaria.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Jacob&#8217;s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>It was about the sixth hour.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">&#8220;Will you give me a drink?&#8221;<\/i><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>(His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The Samaritan woman said to him, &#8220;You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>How can you ask me for a drink?&#8221;<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>(For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.)<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus answered her, <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">&#8220;If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.&#8221;<\/i><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>&#8220;Sir,&#8221; the woman said, &#8220;you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Where can you get this living water?<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his flocks and herds?&#8221;<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus answered, <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">&#8220;Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.&#8221;<\/i><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The woman said to him, &#8220;Sir, give me this water so that I won&#8217;t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.&#8221;<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>He told her, <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">&#8220;Go, call your husband and come back.&#8221;<\/i><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>&#8220;I have no husband,&#8221; she replied.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus said to her, <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">&#8220;You are right when you say you have no husband.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>What you have just said is quite true.&#8221;<\/i><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>&#8220;Sir,&#8221; the woman said, &#8220;I can see that you are a prophet.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.&#8221;<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus declared, <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">&#8220;Believe me, woman, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.&#8221;<\/i><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The woman said, &#8220;I know that Messiah&#8221; (called Christ) &#8220;is coming.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>When he comes, he will explain everything to us.&#8221;<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Then Jesus declared, <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">&#8220;I who speak to you am he.&#8221;<\/i><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>(NIV1984)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">Dear fellow Lenten worshipers,<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">Have you ever known someone who had a \u201cheart\u201d for something?<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Regardless of what anyone else thought or said or did, regardless of whether or not it brought them any personal benefit or any public praise they devoted themselves to doing what they had the \u201cheart\u201d to do.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>I have known any number of people who have that kind of \u201cheart.\u201d<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>For example, I know a woman by the name of Nancy who has a \u201cheart\u201d for animals\u2014 especially animals who are injured.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Since she lives on the Gulf Coast of one of the Florida Keys, she transformed an inlet on their family property into a sanctuary for injured sea turtles.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>I know a man by the name of Bud who had such a \u201cheart\u201d for this country he dedicated his entire adult life to our nation by serving in the United States Army.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>I know a doctor by the name of Allen who long after he retired still continues to dedicate his life to helping provide free medical care to those who can\u2019t afford to see a doctor.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>When I was in college I had a roommate who struggle mightily with some of the classes we were required to take\u2014 especially the Greek and Hebrew.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>But he has such a \u201cheart\u201d for God\u2019s people that to this day he is by far one of the best \u201cpastors\u201d I have ever known.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">Do you know someone who has a \u201cheart\u201d for something, my friends?<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>If so, then our text for today will be extremely easy for you to both understand and appreciate.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>As you and I continue our Lenten journey on the train called <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Destination Calvary <\/i>today let\u2019s see that this \u201ctrain\u201d pulls into <b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Stop #2<\/i><\/b> where we find ourselves at <b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Jacob\u2019s Well.<\/i><\/b><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Here at Jacob\u2019s well we are given an opportunity to view the tender heart of our dear Jesus as He disregards all the social, ethnic and religious barriers of His day and age all so that He might do what He has the \u201cheart\u201d to do, so that He can do what only He can do, so that He can carry out His work as the Christ, the Promised Messiah.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">In order for us to truly grasp the magnitude of what Jesus did here at Jacob\u2019s well we need to review a little bit of history.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>In 722 BC God allowed the Assyrian Empire conquer the Northern Kingdom of Israel.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>This was God\u2019s judgment on Israel\u2019s sin.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>As was customary at that time the Assyrians deported all the important, all the powerful and all the influential people in Israel to various parts of their empire.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>They did not want anyone putting together a rag-tag army of resisters.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The Assyrians then took people from other parts of their empire and re-settled them in the Northern Kingdom of Israel to work the land, run the shops, etc.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Obviously, the people who were brought into the Northern Kingdom would have been Gentiles and not Jews.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Over the course of time these Gentiles intermarried with the remnant of Jews who had been left in the land.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>These Gentiles also brought many of their own religious customs with them.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The result of this mingling between Jews and Gentiles was a group of people known as Samaritans.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>On both an ethnic level as well as on a spiritual level the Samaritans were considered \u201chalf-breeds\u201d\u2014 part Jewish and part Gentile.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>While many of the Samaritans believed in the LORD the God of Israel they only accepted the books of Moses (the first five books of the Bible) as being the inspired Word of God.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>As far as the Jews were concerned (especially the Jews in Jerusalem) the Samaritans were a worthless people who were to be avoided at all costs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">All of that historical and cultural background comes into play here at Jacob\u2019s well as we see the tender heart of our Savior clearly revealed.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The first indication of Jesus\u2019 heart is revealed when we read in the opening verse of our text, <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">\u201cNow he<\/i> (Jesus)<i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"> had to go through Samaria.\u201d<\/i><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Understand, my friends, that Jesus did not \u201chave\u201d to go through Samaria in the sense that He had no other options.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>In fact, many of the Jews would often cross over to the eastern side of the Jordan River and then go north specifically to avoid going through the land of the Samaritans!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus, however, <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">\u201chad to go through Samaria\u201d<\/i> because there was someone there who needed His help.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>And so out of love and concern for this person\u2019s soul Jesus deliberately went into Samaria so that He could make an extremely significant stop right here at Jacob\u2019s well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">The tender heart of our Savior then becomes abundantly clear as Jesus disregards all social, cultural and religious barriers of His day.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Not only does Jesus initiate a conversation with a Samaritan, but He even goes so far as asking a Samaritan <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">woman<\/i> for a drink of water!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>This was completely unheard of\u2014 especially for a Jewish rabbi!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The fact that the Samaritan woman herself was caught completely off-guard by this request can be seen in her reply to Jesus, <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">\u201cYou are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>How can you ask me for a drink?\u201d<\/i><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>We, of course, know the answer to her question, don\u2019t we.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus had something eternally important that He needed to share with this woman.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">In a truly masterful way Jesus slowly begins the process whereby He would lead this woman to see both her greatest problem as well as the only solution to her problem.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Since this woman came out to Jacob\u2019s well to draw water that is where Jesus began.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>From the subject of physical water\u2014 water drawn from a well\u2014 Jesus directed this woman to the subject of <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">\u201cliving water.\u201d<\/i><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus then truly gets her attention when He says to her, <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">\u201cEveryone who drinks this water <\/i>(the water from Jacob\u2019s well)<i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"> will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.\u201d<\/i><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Even though this woman did not quite understand exactly what Jesus meant when He talked about <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">\u201cliving water\u201d<\/i> she knew that this was something she wanted to have.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Then with the precision of a world-renown surgeon Jesus uses the laser of God\u2019s holy Law to show this woman her greatest problem, to show this woman her sin.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>He very simply says, <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">\u201cGo, call your husband and come back.\u201d<\/i><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>We can almost see this woman\u2019s face turn white as Jesus responds to her confession of <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">\u201cI have no husband\u201d<\/i> by saying, <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">\u201cYou are right when you say you have no husband.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The fact is, you have had five husbands, <\/i>(this used to be called \u201cliving in sin\u201d or living with someone without the blessing of marriage)<i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"> and the man you now have is not your husband.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>What you have just said is quite true.\u201d<\/i><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>This Samarian woman now realizes that there is no place to hide.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span><i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">\u201cSir,\u201d<\/i> she says, <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">\u201cI can see that you are a prophet.\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">With the deepest and darkest sins of her life now laid bare, this conversation here at Jacob\u2019s well now turns into a very serious religious discussion.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>And while this woman was indeed confused about many things which the Lord had revealed to His chosen people Israel, there was one thing she did know for sure.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>There was one thing she had absolutely correct.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>We hear her say, <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">\u201cI know that Messiah (called Christ) is coming.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>When he comes, he will explain everything to us.\u201d<\/i><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>It is at this point that we find out exactly why Jesus <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">\u201chad to go through Samaria.\u201d<\/i><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>It is at this point that we find out exactly why Jesus stopped here at Jacob\u2019s well.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus responded to the Samarian woman by saying, <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">\u201cI who speak to you am he.\u201d<\/i><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>In other words, Jesus revealed to her that He is the Promised Messiah, He is the Lord\u2019s Christ, He is the only solution to her greatest problem\u2014 the problem of sin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">The comfort that we receive here at Jacob\u2019s well, my friends, is enormous\u2014 especially because of the fact that we are on a journey whose destination is Calvary.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>For you see we are this woman!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>By nature we were outcasts.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>By nature we were morally and spiritually a stench in the nostrils of our holy, just and perfect God.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>By nature our sins caused God to turn away from us in total and complete disgust.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>As the prophet Isaiah so powerfully reminds us, by nature <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">\u201cAll of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags\u201d<\/i> (Isaiah 64:6).<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>No matter how hard we try to cover up our sins, no matter how hard we try to deny our sins, no matter how hard we try to convince ourselves or others that at least our sins are not nearly as bad as Joe\u2019s sins or not nearly as bad as Sally\u2019s sins\u2014 God knows!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>God hears absolutely everything we have ever said.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>God sees absolutely everything we have ever done.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>God knows absolutely everything we have ever thought.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>And even though He knows all this Jesus still resolutely set out for Jerusalem.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>In spite of all that we have done our dear Jesus willingly walked the path which led Him directly to the cross on Calvary\u2019s hill.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>In spite of all that we have done our dear Jesus tenderly reached out to us through the power of His holy Word and his holy Sacrament and gave us to drink from the spring of living water that wells up to eternal life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">Now do you see why the train called <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Destination Calvary<\/i> had to make a stop here at Jacob\u2019s well?<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Every single day each and every one of us sins against the Almighty Creator of heaven and earth.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Every single day each and every one of us does things and says things and thinks things that deserve eternal condemnation in hell.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>But by stopping here at Jacob\u2019s well and by humbly watching as our Savior\u2019s tender heart reaches out to this Samaritan woman we are reminded\u2014 no rather, we are assured\u2014 that our Savior has willingly paid the penalty for all of our sins in full.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Every time you lift up your eyes and view this cross remember the words that Jesus spoke to the Samaritan woman at Jacob\u2019s well:<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span><i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">\u201cI who speak to you am he.\u201d<\/i><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Every time you lift up your eyes and view this cross remember the words that your Savior spoke to you from that cross, <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">\u201cIt is finished.\u201d<\/i><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Every time you lift up your eyes and view this cross remember what your Jesus has done to not only take away your sins, but also to cleanse you from the guilt and the shame of your sin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">No matter whether it is Nancy or Bud, no matter whether it is Allen or my college roommate, no matter whether it is someone you know or someone I know, there is no one on the face of this earth whose \u201cheart\u201d for people even begins to compare to Jesus\u2019 \u201cheart\u201d for you and for me.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>As the Christ, as the long awaited Promised Messiah what Jesus has done for us and what Jesus has done for the entire human race (Pointing to the cross) is beyond anything we deserve.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>My prayer then this morning is that you will remember how the train called <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Destination Calvary<\/i> stopped here at Jacob\u2019s well so that <b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\">you<\/b> could see!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>So that you could see how your Savior deliberately went out of His way and how your Savior disregarded all the social, ethnic and religious barriers of His day all so that He might tenderly reach out to save a sinner\u2014 a sinner just like you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">To God be the glory!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none;
