Lutheran Church (ELS), 125 Shiloh Rd., Windsor, CA\u00a0(<a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?hl=en&amp;q=Christ%20Evangelical%20Lutheran%20Church%2C%20125%20Shiloh%20Rd.%2C%20Windsor%2C%20CA\">map<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>It will be a service where <strong>Holy Communion<\/strong> is offered as well as the <strong>imposition of ashes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The church father Tertullian (AD 160-125) writes of the practice as a public expression of repentance and our human frailty that stands in need of Christ. \u00a0The imposition of ashes has a long history and today is observed by Christians of many traditions. \u00a0The ashes we will use are the ashes of the palms from our last Palm Sunday, again in keeping with ancient church tradition. \u00a0(Just in case you were wondering. \u00a0No one will be required to receive them).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ash Wednesday &#8211; The beginning of Lent &#8211; is this Wednesday, March 9th.
